The Auckland Libraries Dare to Explore reading programme is a big part of the summer holidays for thousands of kids. Creating something visually appealing and relatable is essential to its success: engaged kids keep reading and keep learning over the break rather than experiencing a ‘summer slide’ in their reading ability. Goodfolk worked with Auckland Libraries to redevelop the visual style of Dare to Explore, with vibrant illustrations of a cast of forest-dwelling characters.

The Te Reo stream for the programme was inspired by the story of Tane, Rehua and ngā kete o te wānanga. We worked closely with the Libraries team to gain an understanding of the story and it’s significance, and then brought it to life visually for young library visitors.
